The Alfa Romeo 159 (Project 140) is a passenger car of the D segment produced by the Italian manufacturer Alfa Romeo from 2005 to 2011. It is built on the same platform as the Alfa Romeo Brera and Spider, existing with sedan bodies four-door and five-door station wagon, the latter being called the Alfa Romeo 159 Sportwagon. The 159 was presented at the 2005 Geneva Motor Show as the successor to the Alfa Romeo 156, and was built at the Pomigliano d´Arco factory in Naples, Italy. Its main rivals were the Audi A4, the BMW 3 Series and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class. Some 240,000 units of the 159 were produced, compared to 680,000 of the 156. Sales in Europe fell from 57,000 in 2006 to just 15,000 in 2010, so which was discontinued early. Its successor, the Alfa Romeo Giulia, began to be marketed only in 2016..
