The Alfa Romeo 166 (Project 936) is a car in the E segment produced by the Italian manufacturer Alfa Romeo between 1998 and 2007. Designed in 1997 by Wolfgang Egger, from the Centro Stile Alfa Romeo in Arese, it is the successor model to the Alfa Romeo 164. Mechanically it had front-wheel drive, 4 and 6-cylinder gasoline engines and 5-cylinder turbodiesel engines. It could mount a 4-speed automatic gearbox. In 2004 a restyling of the front was introduced, with the inclusion of the typical Alfa Romeo grille. Some new equipment items were introduced, a 6-speed manual gearbox, the 3.0-liter gasoline engine was changed to a more powerful 3.2-liter one, and the 2.4 turbodiesel engine was boosted to 185 hp. It took some design elements from the Alfa Romeo 156: The outline of the sides, the joint that allows the rear window to be at the same level as the vertical of the windows, and the shape of the taillights. Technically, the 166 featured a series of mechanical innovations that are worth highlighting, such as the raised triangle front suspension and the multi-link rear suspension, along with others such as rear indicators with LEDs, and a 2.0-liter gasoline engine with variable timing. Phase variator and counter-rotating balance shafts, GPS and xenon headlights.
