HISTORY:

Dr. Ing. H.c. F. Porsche AG generally abbreviated to Porsche AG, or just Porsche, is one of the world’s leading sports car brands, created in Austria and today based in Stuttgart, Germany.

The German Porsche brand was founded in 1931 by Ferdinand Porsche and his son Ferry Porsche. Ferdinand Porsche was already known before founding Porsche, he had worked for other brands. He had also launched the first hybrid car in 1900.

In 1934 Ferdinand Porsche, after being asked to create a car accessible to all Germans, created the Volkswagen Beetle. [2] The Beetle served as a mechanical base for the Type 64 created in 1939 and the Porsche 356 produced in 1948, this being the first Porsche to be produced. The Porsche 356 relied largely on parts used in the Volkswagen Beetle, such as the rear engine with air cooling. Later the 356 was to be built entirely from Porsche parts.

The use of an engine with air cooling and rear location was the main characteristic of Porsche from the beginning. In 1951 Ferdinand Porsche dies due to complications from a heart attack, that same year Porsche wins the class in the 24h of Le Mans with the Porsche 356 SL, thus achieving international notoriety.
Porsche 550 Spyder from 1953.

In 1953 Porsche launched the 550 Spyder, a model responsible for a large number of victories in the automobile competition. This model had as main characteristic, to have four camshafts instead of a central one.
First model of the Porsche 911 of 1964.

In 1964 the Porsche icon, the Porsche 911, is launched. This model was initially launched under the name 901, but due to the commercial rights acquired by Peugeot, it had to change the name. The Porsche 911 had a 6-cylinder engine with a rear location. This model caused internal problems at Porsche, as the lines written by Ferry Porsche did not please everyone.

In 1966 the Porsche 911 Targa went into production, the one that was considered the safe cabriolet, due to its folding glass roof. In 1969 the VW-Porsche 914 is launched, a mid-engine sports car made in coalition with Volkswagen. In 1972, due to the lack of support from the remaining members of the board, Ferry Porsche and his sister Louise Piëch decided to move Porsche to a public company. To this end, they handed over the management of the company to people outside the family circle, with family members remaining to supervise. In 1974 the powerful Porsche 911 Turbo was launched and, until the early 1980s, the 924, 928 and 944 models were launched. The new models were the first Porsche cars to have a front-mounted engine.

In 1988 the Porsche 911 Carrera 4 was launched, with all-wheel drive. In 1991, Porsche introduced the front airbag for the driver and passenger as a standard in production. In 1992, when it was thought that Porsche was ready to be bought by a large group, Dr. Wendelin Wiedeking came to the presidency of Porsche. Porsche then proceeds to increase its financial income. In 1995 Porsche launched the EBD II, a carbon dioxide emission control system. This model was incorporated into the Porsche 911 Turbo, becoming the production car with the lowest level of CO2 emissions. That same year, the 911 GT2, the most powerful Porsche built for the road, was launched, and this model was created with a limited edition.
First generation of the 1996 Porsche Boxster.

In 1996 the Porsche Boxster was launched, with a totally new design: a mid-engined roadster, and two seats. In 1997 the new generation of the 911 Carrera is launched, not unlike other generations. This model starts to incorporate the first engine produced by Porsche with water cooling, until then Porsche used air cooling, which apart from Porsche was only used by Kombi, an inheritance of the engine based on the Beetle, which was used since the first Porsche built. In 1998 Ferry Porsche dies at the age of 88 years. In 1999 the Porsche 911 GT3 and Boxster S. were launched. That same year, Porsche presented the ceramic brake discs. They are introduced as standard in the new generation of the Porsche 911 GT2 built in 2001.
