The Audi A2 (internal designation Typ 8Z) is a B-segment passenger car from the German manufacturer Audi, sold between the years 1999 and 2005. It is a four-seater with a front engine and front-wheel drive. Its main rival was the Mercedes-Benz A-Class.
The A2 was based on a prototype presented at the 1997 Frankfurt Motor Show under the name Al2. Its body and chassis are constructed from aluminum which makes it much lighter than usual, combined with its efficient engines. made it a very fuel efficient car. It scored four out of five stars in the Euro NCAP Adult Passenger Collision Protection Test. The last A2 produced were built in August 2005.
The A2 gasoline engines are a 1.4-liter four-valve-per-cylinder and 75-hp, and a 1.6-liter four-valve-per-cylinder with direct fuel injection and 110 hp, while the diesel is a 1.2-liter 61 hp and a 1.4-liter 75 or 90 hp, all direct injection with pump-injector power, turbocharger and two valves per cylinder.
