This model also debuted the 1.8-liter, five-valve-per-cylinder petrol engine, based on the engine that Audi used in its Superturismo homologated racing models. It was offered in atmospheric versions of 125 hp, and with a turbocharger of 150 or 180 hp.

The diesel engines were a 1.9-liter displacement inline four-cylinder, available in 90, 110 and 116 hp variants, and a 2.5-liter 150 hp V6. Only the 1.9-liter 116 hp is powered by an injector-pump.
