Saab Automobile AB was a Swedish automobile manufacturer consortium based in the city of Trollhättan, Sweden. Saab has focused its factories on the production of high-end cars, emphasizing mainly the power and reliability of its engines as well as the safety of its vehicles.

In 1989, Saab-Scania’s automotive division was restructured into an independent company, Saab Automobile AB. The North American manufacturer General Motors acquired 50% of the property with an investment of $ 600 million, and in 2000 exercised its option to acquire the remaining 50% for an additional $ 125 million, turning Saab Automobile into a subsidiary of GM. In 2010, GM’s financial problems caused it to sell Saab Automobile AB to the Dutch car manufacturer Spyker Cars N.V.
