History:

The Barchetta was developed between 1990 and 1994 under the project name Spider 176 Type B. 3 The base design of the Barchetta came from Andreas Zapatinas inspired by the Ferrari 166 MM, staying at the head of the project until 1993, when he was appointed Chief of Alfa Romeo design. Thereafter the design passed into the hands of Alessandro Cavazza under the supervision of Peter Barrett Davis at the Centro Stile Fiat, finally bringing the vehicle into production in 1995. The interior was built from the first spider concept proposed by Peter Davis and Bertolusso José.

Serial production

The vehicle body and its structure were welded at the ILCAS factory in the Sparone Canavese region, and the final assembly was carried out at the Chivasso plant by Carrozzeria Maggiora. After the bankruptcy of Maggiora in 2002, Fiat moved production of the Barchetta to the Fiat Mirafiori plant and resumed production two years later. Most of the production of the Barchetta was limited to left-hand drive vehicles, only in Right-hand drive models were marketed in the UK and Japan. The first test model manufactured was assembled in September 1994 (chassis 00000099) and true series production began at the end of March 1995. The last unit manufactured left the Mirafiori factory in June 2005, when it finally ceased. the production.
